Front-End Engineer 4 (JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular)
About The Position
Capital One is seeking a front-end software engineer to help drive a major technology transformation and deliver engaging, high-performing features for more than 100 million customers. The role works collaboratively with software engineers, designers, and product managers in a fast-paced, iterative environment. The engineer provides technical leadership in front-end architecture and design, mentors other engineers, and contributes expertise in areas such as performance, accessibility, and architecture. The position includes hands-on design and development of client Backend-for-Frontends (BFFs), micro frontend or federated application architectures, reusable components, and modern web experiences. It also advances engineering practices for feature flags, canary rollouts, testing, quality, and AI-assisted development. The role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives. Capital One offers a comprehensive benefits program; eligibility varies by employment status and management level. Salary ranges depend on work location: Richmond, Virginia, $179,400–$204,700; McLean, Virginia, $197,300–$225,100. Salaries for other locations follow the applicable local range.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field, such as Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
- At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience; internship experience does not count.
- At least 3 years of experience developing applications using TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and modern web frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, or Svelte.
Nice To Haves
- 4 or more years of experience with TypeScript and JavaScript.
- 4 or more years of experience with modern web frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, or Svelte, as well as HTML and CSS.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Jest, Cypress, or Playwright, and web performance tuning.
- Experience designing scalable front-end architectures and reusable component libraries.
- Experience implementing and maintaining comprehensive automated testing.
- Experience designing and developing client Backend-for-Frontends (BFFs) to orchestrate data using technologies such as GraphQL and networking protocols such as gRPC/Protobuf.
- Experience with micro frontend architectures or federated architectural patterns.
- Experience with metrics-driven canary release and feature flag strategies.
- Expertise with agentic AI coding tools and AI-assisted workflow patterns.
Responsibilities
- Partner with software engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver high-performing, quality features for customers.
- Provide technical leadership for front-end architecture and design patterns.
- Mentor engineers through feedback, code reviews, sharing best practices for AI-assisted development, and helping remove technical obstacles.
- Develop subject matter expertise in platform areas such as performance, accessibility, and architecture.
- Contribute to front-end architecture decisions, API design reviews, and reusable component development.
- Lead design and development of client Backend-for-Frontends (BFFs) and micro frontend or federated application architectures.
- Lead implementation and refinement of engineering practices, including feature flags and canary rollouts.
- Champion adoption of agentic AI tools and mentor engineers in AI-native development practices.
- Apply modern web technologies, including PWAs, Wasm, mobile web, and Service Workers, to hands-on technical work.
- Promote quality, performance, accessibility, and customer empathy, establishing high standards for coding, testing, and user experience.
