Front-End Developer - Telemetry and Observability Platform

FordDearborn, MI
$85,400 - $143,200Hybrid

About The Position

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Frontend and UI Developer to join the Connected Vehicle Division in support of the Telemetry and Observability Platform (TOP). In this role, you will build and maintain production-grade interfaces for three distinct user populations — dealer service technicians, validation and verification (V&V) engineers, and manufacturing quality teams — each with distinct workflow demands, device environments, and data visualization requirements driven by AI-generated diagnostics and real-time vehicle telemetry. At Ford Motor Company, we believe freedom of movement drives human progress. As vehicles become software-defined, intelligent, and connected, our ability to compete depends on a fundamental shift: moving from reactive diagnostics to proactive observability. We are building state-of-the-art AI-powered Embedded Vehicle Diagnostics capabilities that combine vehicle signals, diagnostics, logs, engineering knowledge, service procedures, and intelligent reasoning to improve case quality, accelerate fault isolation, guide next-best actions, and support scalable human-in-the-loop escalation. This initiative sits at the intersection of embedded systems, cloud services, diagnostics, observability, and AI/ML engineering.

Requirements

  • 4 or more years of professional frontend development experience building production web applications
  • 4 or more years of working experience in React or equivalent modern JavaScript framework, with strong component architecture skills
  • Demonstrated experience building tablet-first or mobile-first web interfaces for non-consumer professional environments
  • Experience consuming REST and GraphQL APIs and translating structured AI or data service responses into clear, actionable UI presentations
  • Strong CSS skills including responsive layout, design system implementation, and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA minimum)
  • Experience with frontend testing frameworks and a genuine commitment to testable, maintainable component code
  • Ability to work directly with end users in field research or usability testing contexts, not just from written requirements
  • Familiarity with frontend build tooling including Webpack or Vite, and deployment via GCP hosting services such as Firebase Hosting or Cloud CDN (Content Delivery Network)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building interfaces for industrial, manufacturing, or field service environments where users have limited screen time and high task urgency
  • Data visualization experience using D3.js, Recharts, or equivalent libraries for telemetry or diagnostic data display
  • Experience integrating real-time data streams into frontend applications using WebSocket or Server-Sent Events
  • Familiarity with Grafana or Dynatrace dashboard concepts, particularly for real-time display environments
  • Exposure to automotive dealer workflows or vehicle diagnostic tooling

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop optimized interfaces for Ford dealer service technicians, surfacing AI-generated triage recommendations, repair order history, OTA (Over-the-Air) campaign status, and fleet-level fault patterns in a workflow-aligned UI
  • Build data-dense desktop interfaces for Ford V&V (Validation and Verification) engineers, supporting diagnostic data exploration, telemetry visualization, and AI engine output review
  • Develop real-time wall-mounted dashboard interfaces for Ford manufacturing quality teams, optimized for high-visibility display environments with live data refresh requirements
  • Integrate all UI components against TOP platform backend APIs and AI engine response structures, collaborating closely with the Cloud Backend and Services Engineer on API contract definition
  • Implement responsive, accessible design standards across all user populations, accounting for varying device types, screen sizes, and operating conditions
  • Maintain and evolve Ford's TOP platform design system, ensuring visual consistency and component reusability across all interface surfaces
  • Participate in user research and usability testing sessions with dealer technicians, V&V engineers, and manufacturing team members, translating findings into iterative UI improvements
  • Implement frontend observability including error tracking, performance monitoring, and user interaction telemetry
  • Collaborate with the QA and UAT Engineer to define and execute frontend acceptance testing, ensuring UI components meet defined acceptance criteria before deployment
  • Maintain frontend build and deployment pipelines within Ford's GCP environment and GitHub organization

Benefits

  • Immediate medical, dental, vision and prescription drug coverage
  • Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new parent ramp-up programs, subsidized back-up child care and more
  • Family building benefits including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement, fertility treatments, and more
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members and management leases
  • Tuition assistance
  • Established and active employee resource groups
  • Paid time off for individual and team community service
  • A generous schedule of paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day
  • Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.
