About The Position

The Front End Associate supports checkout operations and creates warm, positive customer experiences. The role involves accurate transactions, friendly service, and helping maintain an efficient shopping environment that reflects the Co-op’s core values. Work is performed primarily in a busy grocery store, with frequent customer interaction and regular interruptions, as part of a friendly, cooperative team.

Requirements

• Must be 19 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent communication abilities that create a welcoming customer experience.
• Ability to quickly learn and retain information, including common PLU codes.
• Calm, objective approach to resolving issues and responding under pressure.
• Must successfully complete a background check.
• Efficient work habits suited to a fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a grocery store setting, including prolonged standing or sitting; occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, twisting, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements, use step stools or ladders, and wear proper PPE when using appliances and equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Retail cashier or customer service experience, especially in a grocery environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate and efficient checkout by entering correct SKU, quantity, and weight information into the POS system.
• Engage customers warmly and offer membership information during transactions.
• Ask customers to Round Up for the monthly sponsored non-profit.
• Follow cash handling and check receiving procedures to maintain till accuracy.
• Uphold state regulations concerning the sale of alcoholic beverages.
• Support customers at self-checkout stations and answer questions.
• Handle challenging customer situations calmly and professionally, involving leadership when needed.
• Help maintain a clean and orderly Front End, including the foyer, cart areas, eating spaces, and restrooms.
• Balance customer service with tasks such as stocking and light cleaning.
