About The Position

New York & New Jersey Eye Institute is seeking a friendly, professional, and detail-oriented Front Desk Medical Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for our patients. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional customer service, ensure efficient front-office operations, and support patient scheduling, insurance verification, and administrative functions in ophthalmology practice. This role involves working between different locations as it is a growing institute. The position also involves involvement in the optical boutique with the potential for commission on sales as extra income. This is not a day-to-day routine job; it is a space for you to grow and to add value.

Requirements

  • College graduate.
  • Minimum 2 years of medical office experience in Ophthalmology or Optometry.
  • Experience with insurance verification, preauthorization, referrals, and patient registration.
  • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently.
  • Ready to learn and able to attend classes for enrichment of knowledge to grow.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in medical Billing and coding, or willingness to attend classes.
  • Previous experience in ophthalmology or optometry.
  • Previous experience in optical boutique.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes, and healthcare office procedures.
  • Bilingual candidates are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors in a courteous, professional, and welcoming manner.
  • Check patients in and out while ensuring accurate demographic, insurance, and contact information.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and confirm appointments while maintaining provider schedules efficiently.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, respond to patient inquiries, and direct calls appropriately.
  • Collect copays, deductibles, outstanding balances, and process patient payments.
  • Maintain patient records and accurately scan and upload documents into the EMR system.
  • Assist patients with forms, referrals, and appointment-related questions.
  • Ensure smooth patient flow and a positive patient experience throughout each visit.
  • Willing to work between different locations as a growing institute.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage prior to appointments.
  • Coordinate with insurance companies regarding patient coverage and eligibility questions.
  • Preauthorization for minor procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and practice policies.
  • Support daily front-office operations and administrative tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with providers, clinical staff, and billing teams to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional reception area.
  • Contribute to a team-oriented environment focused on patient satisfaction and operational excellence.
  • Involved in optical boutique with commission on sales as an extra income.
