About The Position

The French Immersion Music Teacher works under the supervision of the Principal to plan and deliver a developmentally appropriate elementary music program. The role supports student creativity, musical skills, appreciation of music, French immersion, and overall student growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in music education, music, education, or a related field.
  • Fluency in French sufficient to deliver instruction, manage classroom routines, and communicate effectively in a French immersion setting.
  • Experience teaching music or leading structured music instruction with elementary-age students.
  • Knowledge of classroom management, differentiated instruction, student assessment, and positive behavior support.
  • Ability to satisfy employment eligibility, background clearance, and other requirements applicable to Louisiana public charter school employees.
  • Ability to collaborate with administrators, faculty, staff, families, and student support teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Louisiana teaching certification or eligibility for certification.
  • Three or more years of teaching experience, preferably in an elementary school setting.
  • Experience teaching in a French immersion, bilingual, or international school setting.
  • Experience planning student performances, assemblies, seasonal programs, or school music events.
  • Familiarity with Louisiana Student Standards for music or arts education.
  • Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver French immersion music instruction aligned with Louisiana Student Standards and school curriculum expectations.
  • Build musical skills through singing, movement, rhythm, listening, performance, composition, and exposure to diverse musical traditions.
  • Support French language development through classroom routines, songs, directions, vocabulary, and student performance tasks.
  • Differentiate instruction for varied readiness levels, language proficiency, learning needs, and student interests.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and well-managed classroom using PBIS or other positive behavior support practices.
  • Assess student progress through observation, performance tasks, student work, and other appropriate tools.
  • Maintain accurate gradebook records, student data, and report card input as required.
  • Communicate student progress, concerns, and improvement plans to families, administrators, and staff.
  • Prepare students for performances, assemblies, open houses, seasonal programs, and school events.
  • Coordinate performance logistics with administration, faculty, and staff, including schedules, supervision, materials, and family communication.
  • Support school-wide initiatives and events that strengthen student belonging and community engagement.
  • Care for, store, and inventory school-owned music, instruments, classroom materials, and equipment.
  • Attend and support occasional evening or weekend events as operational needs arise.
  • Collaborate with administration, classroom teachers, student services, behavioral support staff, and faculty.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, PLCs, SAT meetings, professional development, and other school meetings as needed.
  • Communicate professionally with families and staff and model non-discriminatory, culturally responsive practices.
  • Maintain punctuality, confidentiality, and compliance with Staff Handbook policies and procedures.
