About The Position

Associated Grocers is currently seeking a talented and driven individual to join our incredible team as a Freight Operations Specialist! In this fast-paced role, you’ll coordinate daily freight movements, partner with carriers and internal teams, and ensure shipments move efficiently and on time. You’ll play a key role in resolving issues, managing load execution, and delivering exceptional service while supporting overall performance and profitability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Two to four years related experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficient in utilization of the Warehouse Management System
  • 1–3+ years in transportation, logistics, 3PL, or brokerage operations
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage high-volume freight in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with TMS platforms and Microsoft Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of FTL, LTL, and intermodal freight (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Secure/Confirm carrier capacity in alignment with routing guides and procurement strategy
  • Monitor and Confirm pickup and delivery appointments (CPU, drop-trailer, live load/unload)
  • Monitor in-transit performance and prevent service failures
  • Serve as operational point of contact for assigned lanes and internal teams
  • Serve as operational point of contract, for missing information regarding all PO's.
  • Provide proactive updates on load status, delays, and recovery plans
  • Resolve service disruptions including detention, lumper disputes, and breakdowns
  • Manage load-level profitability and understand buy vs. sell rate dynamics
  • Support KPI tracking including OTD, RDD compliance.
  • Daily communication with our TMS partner
