About The Position

CrossCountry Freight Solutions is hiring a Freight Handler for its Des Moines, Iowa location. This safety-sensitive warehouse position is responsible for loading and unloading freight from trailers with forklifts, pallet jacks, and/or handcarts. Freight Handlers are trained and certified to operate safety-sensitive equipment. The role also involves tracking and documenting freight, staging inbound freight, and checking freight condition to maintain quality standards. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The position pays $24.00 per hour, is non-exempt, and reports to the Service Center Manager. It has no direct reports.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds.
At least six months of verifiable forklift experience.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Successful completion of a pre-employment skills assessment is required.
Must be able to frequently squat and crouch to handle freight.
Must be able to safely maneuver freight or pallets weighing up to 2,500 pounds onto a dolly or cart with mechanical aid and force of up to 130 pounds in various environments and conditions.
Must be able to carry freight weighing up to 40 pounds for up to 20 feet.
Must be able to help load and unload full trailers of freight weighing up to 45,000 pounds with mechanical aid.
Must be able to open and close cargo doors and climb into and out of vehicles.

Responsibilities

Safely load and unload trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, and/or handcarts.
Use handheld scanners to track and document freight through the network.
Accurately identify, sticker, and stage inbound freight.
Verify freight condition to ensure quality standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
