Freight Crew Associate - Graveyard Shift
About The Position
The Freight Crew Associate helps prepare the store and provide guests with a pleasant, efficient experience through active engagement and professional service. The role supports freight and grocery operations by unloading deliveries, organizing pallets, stocking and facing products, maintaining clean work areas, and responding to guest requests. Associates are expected to uphold company values, promote sales and service, follow safety and operating rules, and contribute to a welcoming and positive environment. The position includes communicating with guests, handling special orders, using specified store equipment safely, and helping new associates learn their tasks. It has no formal supervisory responsibilities. The role requires physical activity, including prolonged standing and walking, varied bending and climbing movements, and lifting or moving items weighing up to 50 pounds. Work may involve moving mechanical parts, occasional fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, and temperature extremes.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and understand simple instructions, correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and communicate effectively and pleasantly with guests, vendors, and coworkers.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations using American currency, weight, and volume measurements.
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to written or oral instructions and manage problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Meet state minimum requirements for operating a baler and trash compactor.
- Valid driver's license or state ID card.
- Ability to perform essential duties sufficiently; reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including prolonged standing and lifting or moving items up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Report for assigned shifts on time and regularly, communicate clearly, and be prepared to provide excellent service.
- Engage guests, offer product recommendations and samples, explain promotions and services, and help locate or order products.
- Unload freight, break down and organize mixed pallets, stock and face shelves, clean aisles and work areas, and promptly remove stocking debris.
- Participate in accident-reduction and safety practices, including monitoring for trip hazards, using safe lifting techniques, and understanding machinery safety features and emergency policies.
- Operate equipment safely, including a com-line, phone, baler, box cutter, FM unit (handheld), pallet jack, six-wheelers, symbol unit, cash register, and trash compactor.
- Mentor new associates or associates learning a new department or task, and help maintain a positive learning environment.
- Communicate and complete guest special-order requests accurately and promptly.
- Take steps to make guests happy and provide exceptional service.
- Complete department work in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal rules and company policies concerning safety and guest services.
- Participate in grocery accident-reduction practices, including cleaning floors, sanitizing, and recognizing shelf-order, machinery-safety, evacuation, robbery, case-temperature, and storage requirements.
- Promote a welcoming atmosphere, uphold company values and mission, represent the company positively, and contribute to shared success.
