About The Position

We are building PayMoji, an app that lets travelers ditch the bulky wallets and pay like a local using native QR codes across Southeast Asia. To ensure seamless real-world functionality, we are seeking observant, street-savvy travelers in Vietnam and the Philippines to map out how people spend money in their cities. This role involves documenting payment experiences, testing the PayMoji app with local QR codes, understanding local cash-versus-digital payment dynamics, and gathering intel on merchant reactions to foreign travelers using local digital payment methods.

Requirements

  • A true understanding of being a traveler or digital nomad.
  • Empathy with users and deep customer understanding.
  • Enjoy interacting with locals, asking questions, and noticing the small details about how a city functions.
  • Ability to manage a simple research brief independently.
  • Ability to provide clear, honest feedback from the road.
  • Currently located in Vietnam or the Philippines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience backpacking through Vietnam or island-hopping in the Philippines.

Responsibilities

  • Go about your normal day, visit cafes, night markets, and local vendors and document the payment experience.
  • Use PayMoji to scan local QR codes where you eat, shop, and travel, reporting back on how smoothly the transaction goes.
  • Help us understand the local cash-versus-digital dynamics, which vendors accept QR, where cash is still king, and the biggest physical barriers to paying digitally.
  • Observe and document how local merchants react to foreign travelers using local digital payment methods.

Benefits

  • Earn while exploring.
  • Project-based, freelance role.
  • No disruption to your lifestyle; complete tasks while doing planned activities.
  • Potential for more project opportunities or ongoing collaboration as PayMoji grows.
