The Franciscan Nurse Internship Program gives nursing students paid clinical experience while they complete their nursing degree. Interns work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and assigned RN preceptor, assisting with high-quality patient care and learning hands-on care, recognition of signs and symptoms, and appropriate responses. The program takes place at Franciscan Health Dyer Campus in Dyer, Indiana, and is intended to support students’ transition into nursing practice in a safe, nurturing environment. Interns work 8–12 hours per month and receive tuition assistance for the last three semesters of their nursing program. The program aims to help students apply the nursing process in acute care, manage patients with acute and chronic conditions using a holistic approach, integrate clinical and professional skills, develop clinical reasoning and competent nursing practice, and begin transitioning to professional practice. Accepted students are expected to work at least 8–12 hours monthly on their assigned unit and commit to 3,744 hours (two years) of full-time service after obtaining an LPN or RN credential. Applications are submitted online, and candidates will be asked to attend a panel interview.
