About The Position

The Franciscan Nurse Internship Program at Franciscan Health’s Munster location gives nursing students paid, hands-on clinical experience as they complete their nursing degree. Patient Care Novices work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to help provide high-quality patient care, develop clinical skills, and learn to recognize signs and symptoms and respond appropriately. The program offers a safe, nurturing environment and aims to ease participants’ transition into nursing practice. Interns work 8–12 hours per month and receive tuition assistance for the last three semesters of their nursing program. The program is designed to help students use the nursing process in acute care, manage patients with acute and chronic conditions using a holistic approach, integrate clinical and professional skills, and develop clinical reasoning and competent nursing practice. Students accepted into the program must work a minimum of 8–12 hours per month on their assigned unit with an assigned RN preceptor. After obtaining an LPN or RN credential, participants commit to 3,744 hours (two years) of full-time service. Applications are submitted online, and candidates are asked to attend a panel interview.
