Franciscan Alliance, Inc.•Munster, IN

About The Position

The Franciscan Nurse Internship Program supports nursing students as they complete their degrees by providing paid clinical experience at Franciscan Health’s Munster location. Working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, interns assist with patient care, develop hands-on skills, and learn to recognize signs and symptoms and respond appropriately. The program provides a safe, nurturing environment for learning and easing the transition into nursing practice. Interns work 8–12 hours per month and receive tuition assistance for the last three semesters of their nursing program. The internship aims to help students use the nursing process in acute care; manage patients with acute and chronic conditions through a holistic approach; integrate critical thinking, care coordination, decision-making, leadership, collaboration, and communication skills; and develop clinical reasoning and competent nursing practice. Applicants must be currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited ASN or BSN program, have completed the specified clinical semesters, and have 2–3 semesters remaining. Application materials include current American Heart Association BLS certification, two recommendation letters (one from a clinical instructor), a professional statement of interest, an unofficial transcript, and a resume or CV with expected graduation date. Applicants must apply online and attend a panel interview if invited. Accepted interns commit to working at least 8–12 hours monthly on their assigned unit with an assigned RN preceptor. After obtaining an LPN and/or RN credential, they are expected to commit to 3,744 hours (two years) of full-time service.
