About The Position

BigRio is a remote-based technology consulting firm headquartered in Boston, MA. We deliver software solutions ranging from custom development and software implementation to data analytics and machine learning/AI integrations. As a one-stop shop, we attract clients from a variety of industries due to our proven ability to deliver cutting-edge, cost-effective software solutions. We are seeking an experienced Fractional CTO with fluent written and verbal French skills to lead and execute Technical Due Diligence (TDD) for our investment and acquisition processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technology leadership, architecture, software development, security, DevOps, and risk assessment, with experience in evaluating the technical landscapes of companies.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in technology leadership roles (CTO, VP of Engineering, or similar), ideally in startups, scale-ups, or M&A environments.
  • Proven track record in conducting technical due diligence for acquisitions, investments, or technology assessments.
  • Deep expertise in software architecture, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, cybersecurity, and software development lifecycles (SDLC).
  • Strong understanding of technical debt, scalability challenges, and operational risks.
  • Experience with modern development stacks, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and security frameworks.
  • Exceptional analytical and documentation skills with experience in writing due diligence reports.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Fluent French (written & verbal) is a must.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with private equity, venture capital, or M&A teams.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance (GDPR, ISO 27001, SOC 2) and security best practices.
  • Experience leading technical integrations post-acquisition.
  • Previous experience working in B2B SaaS, FinTech, Healthcare, or high-growth tech environments.

Responsibilities

  • Identify potential risks, inefficiencies, and gaps in team structure, architecture, development, deployment, security, and operations that could impact business profitability and scalability.
  • Provide a structured evaluation of technical debt, security shortfalls, operational risks, business interruption risks, and talent gaps.
  • Validate findings based on given business assumptions and provide clarity on areas that require attention.
  • Document and classify issues as Deal Blockers, Material Findings, or Non-Material Findings with clear justifications.
  • Produce a detailed TDD report covering product, people, technology, and processes to provide a holistic overview of the target company's technical landscape.
  • Recommend best practices to enhance the efficiency of the due diligence process, making interactions with target companies smoother and more structured.
  • Present findings and recommendations to investors, executives, and decision-makers in a clear and actionable manner.
