FPGA/ Digital Design Engineer I - Onsite

RTX•Tewksbury, MA
•$62,900 - $119,700•Onsite

About The Position

The FPGA/Digital Design Engineer I will design and develop circuit card assemblies (CCAs) and FPGA-based solutions using industry architectures including AMD, Altera, and Microchip. The designs support mission-critical applications involving gigabit serial interfaces, RF and EO digital signal processing, embedded controllers, and processor interfaces. The role works in an agile, cross-functional environment with systems, mechanical, and software engineers across the product lifecycle, from architecture and algorithm modeling through hardware integration and production release. The position is based onsite in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM discipline, obtained by the start date.
  • Experience or coursework in one or more of the following: Digital Electronics, Circuit Design or Analysis, Digital Design, or HDL coding targeting configurable logic devices.
  • Experience using common electronic test and measurement equipment, such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or digital multimeters, for circuit characterization, debugging, and validation.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government-issued security clearance required before the start date; U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance eligibility.
  • Ability to obtain an interim U.S. government-issued security clearance before the start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated proficiency with VHDL or Verilog coding, simulation, and synthesis tools.
  • Hands-on experience integrating, troubleshooting, and debugging digital electronics using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and digital multimeters.
  • Experience with electrical schematic capture, PCB layout, or circuit analysis software.
  • Familiarity with FPGA timing constraints, timing closure, and digital simulation tools such as Questa or Riviera-PRO.
  • Exposure to embedded processors, SoC architectures, or industry protocols such as AXI, PCIe, SPI, or I2C.
  • Experience using Python, C, or Linux-based development environments for engineering workflows.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git or GitHub.
  • Understanding of radar, image, or digital signal processing techniques.
  • Familiarity with multi-gigabit transceivers and high-speed serial interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and verify digital architecture, circuit card designs, and FPGA implementations targeting configurable logic devices.
  • Model digital algorithms, partition design functions, and write high-reliability code for embedded processing systems.
  • Perform component selection, schematic capture, and circuit simulation, and collaborate on physical layout and routing.
  • Integrate and validate hardware designs in a laboratory environment using test instrumentation against system requirements.
  • Maintain design documentation, technical reports, and configuration management artifacts throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support engineering activities from initial customer requirement definition through formal production release.
