About The Position

This role involves learning and performing multiple phases of core making and molding within a foundry environment. Responsibilities include operating machinery, preparing materials, and assembling components to create molds and cores for castings. The position requires adherence to established practices, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively and safely. Judgment and skill are necessary for tasks such as sand conditioning, gating, ramming, and venting to ensure high-quality molds and cores. The worker will also be responsible for maintaining good housekeeping and safe work habits.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn the multiple phases of core making on both large core bench and small core bench.
  • Ability to learn how to perform most phases of molding in both floor molding and on the figure 9 molding line.
  • Ability to learn to read and work from Foundry Engineering methods, sketches, shop cards and blueprints.
  • Follow clearly prescribed standard practice in the operation of the system to ensure top quality molds and cores.
  • Skill and judgment are required in the application of molding practice, sand condition, properly cutting gating, ramming, and venting.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and perform multiple phases of core making on both large and small core benches.
  • Place boxes on conveyors using overhead crane, forklift, or by hand.
  • Prepare boxes for filling, determine adequate number of rods and hooks.
  • Operate sand mixer.
  • Fill boxes and ram as required.
  • Set and secure change pieces, loose pieces, ram up cores, and chills.
  • Finish cores by pulling vanes or loose pieces and smoothing rough edges.
  • Apply adequate thickness of core wash and dry jobs.
  • Paste and assemble core sections.
  • Work closely as part of a team in the making of cores.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices and habits.
  • Exhibit safe execution of all tasks and duties.
  • Work collaboratively with company supervision to meet company goals.
  • Learn and perform multiple phases of molding in both floor molding and on the figure 9 molding line.
  • Prepare jobs for fill, placement of riser sleeves, ramming, and striking off excess sand.
  • Operate the roll-a-draw to remove mold from pattern on figure 9 molding line.
  • Make and variety of molds for small, medium, and large sized castings.
  • Properly locate pattern and flask, set gaggers, tuck, and shovel molding sand into flask.
  • Set and secure loose pieces, ram up cores, and chills.
  • Properly vent, strike off, cut pouring basin, lift cope, draw pattern, roll any flask set, and move mold to pouring location.
  • Patch and repair mold, cut gates, and reinforce joint.
  • Apply adequate thickness of mold wash and dry jobs.
  • Set cores, anchor cores, determine appropriate medium and thickness of rope seal or glue, close mold, clamp mold and weight mold.
  • Read and work from Foundry Engineering methods, sketches, shop cards and blueprints.
  • Follow standard practice in the operation of the system to ensure top quality molds and cores.
  • Apply molding practice, sand condition, properly cutting gating, ramming, and venting.
