For molding, activities include operating a sand mixer, preparing jobs for filling, placing riser sleeves, ramming, and striking off excess sand. The worker will learn to operate the roll-a-draw, understand various mold types for different casting sizes, and properly locate patterns and flasks. Additional molding tasks include setting gaggers, tucking, shoveling sand, setting and securing loose pieces, ramming cores and chills, venting, striking off, cutting pouring basins, lifting cope, drawing patterns, rolling flasks, and moving molds. Repairing molds, cutting gates, reinforcing joints, applying mold wash, drying jobs, setting and anchoring cores, determining rope seal or glue thickness, closing, clamping, and weighting molds are also included. The role emphasizes teamwork, maintaining good housekeeping, safe execution of tasks, and collaboration with supervision to meet company goals. Work is largely routine but requires judgment in applying molding practices, sand conditions, cutting gates, ramming, and venting.
