About The Position

Scout is seeking a Founding Operations Lead to manage and automate all operational aspects of the company. This role involves performing a wide range of operational tasks, including finance, vendor management, payroll, benefits, contract processing, recruiting logistics, and insurance. A key responsibility is to identify opportunities for automation, either by building internal solutions using AI tools or by purchasing and implementing external software. The goal is to ensure that as the company grows, the time spent on manual operational tasks does not increase. The ideal candidate will be proactive in building systems that reduce manual labor and comfortable working with ambiguity to define and improve processes.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience in operations, business ops, chief of staff, implementation, or consulting, with hands-on experience.
  • Proven ability to build systems (scripts, Zapier chains, Airtable bases, Retool apps, spreadsheets) that replace manual labor and save time.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to extract knowledge from various sources to define and improve processes.
  • Willingness to perform unglamorous operational tasks.
  • Strong written communication skills for creating documentation and SOPs.
  • Authorization to work in the US.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of SQL, Python, and/or TypeScript.
  • Experience with AI tools like Claude Code and Codex.
  • Experience as an early employee at a startup with minimal existing infrastructure.
  • Experience in edtech or other compliance-heavy industries (e.g., healthcare).

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute finance operations, including invoicing and collections.
  • Oversee vendor management and the company's tool stack.
  • Handle payroll and benefits administration.
  • Manage contract turnaround processes.
  • Coordinate recruiting logistics.
  • Administer insurance policies.
  • Automate recurring operational tasks by building internal solutions or acquiring external tools.
  • Redesign processes to eliminate unnecessary tasks.
  • Implement and manage new operational systems and workflows.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and documentation for company operations.
