About The Position

Valent is rebuilding America's industrial base with a platform that connects supplier intelligence, market requirements, and operations. It maps materials to suppliers, manufacturing sites, and countries of origin down to the sub-tier; links certificates to the lots they certify; and checks bills of materials against requirements affecting contracts and credits. As one of Valent's first engineers, you will work directly with the founders in a forward-deployed role, splitting time between customer facilities and the codebase. You will own customer deployments end to end, from ingesting supplier documents and ERP data to building required integrations and shipping deployment-specific capabilities. You will turn field learnings into core product while helping shape the architecture, engineering culture, and future hiring.

Requirements

At least 4 years of experience shipping production software.
Production experience building with LLMs, including extraction, retrieval, agents, and evaluations.
Comfort working across the stack with TypeScript, Python, Postgres, and cloud infrastructure.
Enjoy talking to users and be able to earn the trust of supply chain VPs and quality engineers.
Care about correctness because outputs are used in audits, tax filings, and defense contracts.
Want substantial ownership and the ability to move quickly without waiting for specifications.

Nice To Haves

Experience as an early engineer at a startup.
Experience in manufacturing, supply chain, defense, energy, or another regulated industry.
Forward-deployed, solutions, or implementation engineering experience.
Experience with Document AI, OCR, or entity resolution at scale.
Experience with ERP data, including SAP, NetSuite, Oracle, Plex, or Epicor.

Responsibilities

Build document and data pipelines that convert supplier certificates, declarations, mill test reports, and bills of materials into structured, auditable provenance records.
Build agents that monitor supplier communications, detect upstream changes in material sources, processes, and facilities, and recommend next steps.
Encode regulatory logic, including FEOC, §45X domestic content, DFARS specialty metals and magnet provisions, and Buy American, against real bills of materials.
Own customer deployments by scoping data, building integrations with ERPs, inboxes, and drives, and getting customers live quickly.
Build evaluation and review tooling so outputs can be traced to their sources and withstand audits.
Help shape the architecture, engineering culture, and hiring as the team grows.
