About The Position

Volca is seeking a top-tier engineer to join their small, high-autonomy team focused on Applied AI within the home services industry. The company's mission is to help home service professionals, who prefer manual work, move away from tedious administrative tasks like managing payroll and tracking accounts payable. Volca has developed an AI agent that automates complex commission calculations, reducing hours of manual work to minutes. Their first product achieved 0-2M ARR in 8 months. They are now building a second product to help customers track materials used on jobs, with an MVP already live and undergoing customer feedback. The company has raised $7 million in funding and is aiming for aggressive ARR growth, with this role being crucial for their upcoming Series A funding round. They operate from a spacious office in Gramercy and are committed to an in-person working environment.

Requirements

Solid front-end biased full-stack engineering skills.
Previous experience working on applied AI agents or demonstrable curiosity in the realm.
Ability to jump into AI agent work from day one.
Ability to speak intelligently about system design.
Proficiency in at least one of the following: front-end development or applied AI agents.
Familiarity with the tech stack: Ruby on Rails, React, Postgres, AWS, Redis.

Previous experience working on applied AI agents.
Demonstrable curiosity in the realm of applied AI agents.

Responsibilities

Join the founding engineering team alongside the CTO and three other engineers.
Take vague problems provided by the CTO or customer success team and independently determine how to solve them.
Contribute to making AI-native workflows intuitive for users with limited experience interacting with agents, specifically for customer onboarding.
Develop generic workflows for unstructured data related to payroll and commission communication, despite bespoke business plans.
Transition the Accounts Payable (AP) product from beta to a reliable, indispensable tool for customers.
Flex engineering skills to address whatever needs arise within the team.
