About The Position

Volca is seeking a top-tier engineer to work on applied AI within a small, high-autonomy team. The company operates in the home services industry, aiming to help businesses move away from manual data management in spreadsheets and towards more efficient, automated solutions. Volca's products, starting with payroll automation using an AI agent, have achieved significant ARR growth. They are now expanding into Accounts Payable (AP) tracking for materials used on jobs, with an MVP already in customer testing. The company has raised $7 million in funding and is preparing for a Series A round. The engineering team is currently at capacity, and this role is crucial for addressing bottlenecks and improving fundraising prospects. Volca has a spacious office in Gramercy, New York, and is committed to an in-person working environment. The current team consists of 3 founders, 3 engineers, 2 CS, and 4 sales professionals. The company plans to expand all departments over the next six months.

Requirements

Solid front-end biased full-stack engineering skills.
Previous experience working on applied AI agents or demonstrable curiosity in the field.
Ability to jump into AI agent development from day one.
Intelligent discussion of system design.
Proficiency in at least one of the following: front-end development or applied AI agents.
Familiarity with the general tech stack: Ruby on Rails, React, Postgres, AWS, Redis.

Nice To Haves

Interest in bridging the gap between front-end and applied AI experience if not already proficient in both.

Responsibilities

Join the founding engineering team alongside the CTO and three other engineers.
Receive vague problems from the CTO or customer success team and independently determine how to solve them.
Contribute to removing Customer Success from the onboarding process by making AI-native workflows intuitive for users with limited agent interaction experience.
Own the communication around payroll, establishing generic workflows for unstructured data related to bespoke business pay programs.
Scale the AP product from 3 beta customers to a core group of dedicated users, ensuring reliability and indispensability.
Collaborate on system design and contribute to the general tech stack (Ruby on Rails, React, Postgres, AWS, Redis).
