About The Position

Own end-to-end thermal and HVAC design automation for data center and industrial projects, including air-cooled halls and liquid-cooling systems. Deliver real mechanical engineering work on live projects while building a parametric engine that generates designs for future sites. Prior software experience is not required; the role involves using AI coding tools to build and ship software workflows, with engineering judgment and understanding of physics, constraints, and trade-offs taking priority. Develop complete mechanical and HVAC design packages and build automation for generating deliverables from a single parameter template. Automate system sizing, equipment selection, thermal calculations, and design optimization, and connect mechanical designs with electrical and structural systems so changes propagate across disciplines. The company hires across the experience spectrum and values demonstrated building ability over years on a résumé.

Requirements

Deep understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and cooling-system trade-offs.
Hands-on experience building real physical systems; first-of-a-kind products and environments are especially relevant.
Ability to ship code using AI tools, even without a traditional software background.
Ability to take difficult engineering problems from first principles to working solutions.
Demonstrated ability to build; years of experience on a résumé are not the deciding factor.

Nice To Haves

Experience building first-of-a-kind products at companies such as Tesla, SpaceX, Joby, Anduril, Rivian, or similar environments.
A PE license; helpful but not required.
Direct experience in data centers, construction, or AEC; not required.

Responsibilities

Deliver complete mechanical/HVAC packages, including cooling load calculations, airflow and CFD analysis, chilled-water and liquid-cooling architectures, equipment sizing, P&IDs, 3D models, and construction sets.
Build a parametric thermal/HVAC engine that generates deliverables from a single parameter template for data center sites.
Automate system sizing, equipment selection, thermal calculations, and design optimization.
Connect mechanical designs with electrical and structural systems so changes automatically propagate across disciplines.
Use AI coding agents such as Claude Code to build workflows and ship code.
Take difficult engineering problems from first principles through to working solutions.
