About The Position

Supervises the Organization’s animal foster care and animal transfer programs; trains and supervises staff and volunteers in all aspects of the Foster & Transfer department. Coordinates, documents, implements, and continuously improves foster and transfer programs, procedures, and workflows. The position supervises four (4) or more staff members plus associated volunteers. This position supports our Transport Coordinators at Greeley Adoption Campus. This is a working supervisor position and includes performing the duties of direct reports routinely and in their absence. This is a full-time, hourly position. Work schedules vary between 7:30am-7:30pm Monday-Friday and 7:30am-5:30pm Saturday-Sunday and are subject to change. Schedule will include a weekend shift and may include overnights, holidays, special events, and emergencies, as needed. This position is based at our Evans campus, but oversees staff at all campuses. This position will regularly work and travel to all of the Organization’s campuses, to other transfer partner organizations, offsite events, and to foster homes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Associate’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum one year of proven staff supervisory or applicable lead experience, or six months of current Organization lead experience.
  • Minimum one year of experience in animal welfare, animal care, animal health or applicable industry required.
  • Hands on experience with companion animals required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age (required for insurance purposes).
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License and insurable driving record; have and maintain personal driving insurance meeting Colorado standards.
  • Knowledge of basic animal nutritional requirement
  • Knowledge of basic companion animal healthcare and common diseases
  • Knowledge of companion animal breeds, colors and behaviors
  • Knowledge of common animal sheltering evaluation tools
  • Emotional intelligence, work ethics and work integrity required
  • Proven solid computing skills (Microsoft Office environment; Publisher)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Skilled in public speaking
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills
  • Proficient animal handling skills
  • Must become proficient in venipuncture, vaccination and euthanasia techniques
  • Project management and multi-tasking skills required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous animal foster care coordinator experience highly desirable.
  • Animal euthanasia and vaccination certification or experience desired.
  • Veterinary assistant or technician experience a plus.
  • Chameleon software, or other animal shelter software, experience a plus.
  • Neonatal animal care experience helpful and experience driving a passenger van a plus.
  • Animal welfare experience preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish reading, writing, understanding, speaking is a plus and includes a wage premium.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Foster & Transfer Coordinators by assigning work, developing schedules, approving time off, ensuring adequate department coverage, and providing day-to-day leadership and support.
  • Participates in recruitment, onboarding, coaching, performance management, employee development, recognition, and corrective action.
  • Serves as the primary escalation point for foster and transfer-related operational questions and concerns.
  • Maintains proficiency in all departmental functions and routinely performs frontline duties to support operations and provide coverage as needed.
  • Recruits, trains, schedules, and supervises foster care and transfer volunteers to maintain an effective volunteer program.
  • Maintains department supply inventories and coordinates ordering for all campuses.
  • Develops, documents, implements, and monitors department protocols and standard operating procedures under the direction of the Behavior Manager, ensuring compliance with PACFA regulations and organizational standards.
  • Collects and analyzes department data, prepares monthly reports, and monitors key performance indicators.
  • Assists with annual budget planning and manages departmental expenditures within the approved budget.
  • Serves as the Department Volunteer Supervisor (DVS) and participates in organization and volunteer program meetings as assigned.
  • Provides day-to-day oversight of the Organization's foster and transfer programs, ensuring timely placement, movement, and continuity of care for animals.
  • Oversees foster operations, including foster appointments, home inspections, animal placement, monitoring animal health and behavior, and coordinating follow-up with veterinary, behavior, or operations staff as needed.
  • Coordinates and, when necessary, performs animal transfers to and from placement partners and other facilities, including overnight and out-of-state transport.
  • Routinely performs the duties of a Foster & Transfer Coordinator to support daily operations and provide staffing coverage.
  • Safely handles, vaccinates, examines, medicates, and transports animals in accordance with organizational protocols.
  • Participates in euthanasia decision-making and performs euthanasia as assigned.
  • Operates Organization vehicles in support of foster, transfer, and other operational needs.
  • Represents the Organization at community events, partner meetings, off-site adoption events, and outreach activities to strengthen relationships, increase visibility, and support organizational goals, with an emphasis on expanding NOCO Humane's presence in Weld County.
  • Assists in planning, coordinating, and participating in community engagement initiatives, foster recruitment efforts, and placement partner events that promote animal welfare and build community partnerships.
  • Coordinates the Organization's annual Placement Partner Recognition event and fosters positive, collaborative relationships with rescue and transfer partners.
  • Serves as a community liaison for foster, transfer, and placement partner relationships as assigned.
  • Cross-trains in and provides operational support to other shelter departments as needed, including Veterinary Services, Behavior & Enrichment, Animal Care, and Client Services.
  • Participates in organizational meetings, committees, and cross-functional workgroups as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
