About The Position

The Forward Deployment Engineer, HL7 Integration helps customers correctly adopt DeepHealth’s Diagnostic Suite by owning integration with their clinical systems. The role combines HL7 and DICOM engineering expertise, radiology workflow knowledge, and customer communication to design customer integrations, coach implementation teams, resolve complex interface issues, and translate recurring integration needs into standard, configurable product capabilities. The Forward Deployment Engineering function works at the intersection of the Technical Delivery Manager, Product, Service, and Solution Delivery teams to support smooth customer adoption. It transitions best practices to Service and Solution Delivery teams and plans upcoming product changes with them to ensure commercial readiness. The role also owns the AI adoption strategy for clinical data integration and supports AI-enabled workflows that depend on integrated clinical data. The position is remote in the United States and requires domestic and international travel of up to 25%, primarily for customer discovery, go-lives, and escalations. The salary range is $125,000–$145,000, dependent upon experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Health Informatics, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 8 years of overall experience in healthcare IT integration or clinical systems.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on HL7 v2.x interface design and support in a customer-facing or implementation role, ideally in radiology or imaging.
  • Expert-level experience with at least one integration engine.
  • Strong understanding of radiology order-to-result workflows across RIS, PACS, modality worklist, reporting, and EHR.
  • Working knowledge of DICOM, including how HL7 order data maps to DICOM attributes and modality worklist.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript for interface transformers, SQL, and message/log analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with customer IT, interface analysts, and clinical stakeholders, including in escalated situations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with FHIR R4 and IHE profiles, including SWF, PIR, and XDS.
  • An imaging informatics credential such as CIIP or PARCA.
  • Experience in a regulated medical device environment, including FDA 21 CFR 820 and ISO 13485, and with ITIL practices.
  • Experience with Mirth Connect / NextGen Connect; Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, or Corepoint are acceptable alternatives.

Responsibilities

  • Own integration solution design for assigned customers, mapping radiology order-to-result workflows across RIS/EHR, worklists, PACS, Viewer, reporting, and results to HL7 and DICOM interface configuration.
  • Lead technical discovery with customers and implementation teams, covering interfaces, message types, code sets, migration data, and cutover requirements.
  • Build, configure, and validate interfaces in an integration engine, including mappings, transformers, routing, and test message sets.
  • Partner with the assigned implementation counterpart to incorporate learnings and best practices into customer configurations and implementations.
  • Train and coach implementation teams and customer interface analysts on standard interface specifications and correct configuration; publish integration playbooks and baselines.
  • Serve as the customer-facing technical lead for integration during go-lives, hypercare, and escalations.
  • Provide implementation support and act as the escalation point for HL7 and integration issues, including root cause analysis and resolution with engineering.
  • Establish change control for site-specific interface customizations, including documentation, versioning, and rollback plans aligned to product releases.
  • Convert recurring interface needs into standard, configurable product capabilities and requirements to reduce one-off integrations.
  • Own the AI adoption strategy for clinical data integration by defining requirements, expected customer impact, and success criteria and communicating them to Product and Engineering.
  • Configure and support adoption of AI-enabled workflows that depend on clinical data integration, coordinating rollout, site readiness, and customer adoption with the Technical Delivery Manager and Product Manager.
  • Own escalation of engineering issues from assigned accounts by triaging and documenting reproducible defects, tracking status with engineering, and closing the loop with customers.
  • Support site reliability for HL7 in assigned accounts by monitoring service health with observability tools, participating in incident response, and driving reliability improvements with engineering.
  • Follow DeepHealth policies and procedures, applicable laws, data privacy, compliance, safety, and confidentiality standards.
  • Complete responsibilities professionally and on time, maintain regular attendance, and adapt to new tasks, methods, and systems.
