About The Position

Fastino is building specialized, efficient language models designed to outperform general-purpose models on important tasks. The company’s open-source GLiNER models have been downloaded more than 50 million times and are used by teams at NVIDIA, Meta, and Airbnb. Fastino has raised $25 million from investors and technology leaders.

The Forward Deployed Engineer embeds with customer engineering teams to scope, build, and deploy Fastino models in production systems. The role involves writing integrations, data pipelines, evaluation harnesses, and services that run on customer infrastructure, including cloud, VPC, and on-premises environments. The engineer fine-tunes and evaluates models on customer data, validates improvements in accuracy, latency, and cost, and resolves technical issues across authentication, networking, GPU and inference performance, data quality, and edge cases.

The engineer owns the technical side of customer deals from the first call through go-live, working closely with founders and account executives. They turn field implementations into reusable tools, reference architectures, and SDK improvements, and relay customer feedback to research and product teams.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 3 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong Python skills.
• Comfort with at least one of TypeScript, Go, or Rust.
• Hands-on experience shipping LLM or ML systems to production, such as APIs, fine-tuning, evaluations, RAG, or agents.
• Knowledge of cloud and infrastructure basics, including AWS, GCP, or Azure; Docker; Kubernetes; networking; and security.
• Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain tradeoffs to both engineers and VPs.
• An ownership mindset and willingness to solve problems directly.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed.

Nice To Haves

• Customer-facing experience, such as in a forward deployed engineer, solutions engineering, consulting, or similar role.
• Experience with GLiNER, NER, or other information extraction models.
• Early-stage startup experience.

Responsibilities

• Embed with customer engineering teams to scope, build, and deploy Fastino models into production systems.
• Build integrations, data pipelines, evaluation harnesses, and services that run on customer infrastructure, including cloud, VPC, and on-premises environments.
• Fine-tune and evaluate models on customer data, demonstrating improvements over baselines in accuracy, latency, and cost.
• Debug authentication, networking, GPU and inference performance, data quality, and other technical issues.
• Own the technical side of customer deals from the first call through go-live, collaborating with founders and account executives.
• Turn field implementations into reusable tools, reference architectures, and SDK improvements.
• Bring customer feedback to research and product teams and advocate for customer needs.
