Forward Deployed Engineer (San Francisco)

LevelpathSan Francisco, CA
$165,000 - $240,000Onsite

About The Position

Levelpath is building autonomous procurement, backed by top venture capital firms and founded by experienced entrepreneurs. We utilize an agentic software factory to accelerate development, embedding AI learnings directly into our product for faster, more accurate, and safer outcomes for enterprise procurement teams. The core belief is that all aspects of procurement can be handled by AI, and this role is crucial in proving that by making Levelpath work within real enterprise environments, data, systems, and with stakeholders. The Forward Deployed Engineer will embed with enterprise customers, acting as the technical bridge between the customer's world and Levelpath's product. This role sits at the intersection of product, engineering, and customer success, translating customer needs into product development. Responsibilities include configuring workflows, setting up integrations, and addressing complex questions about how Levelpath's agents handle customer data. It's an engineering role with a customer present, involving writing code, building integrations, and debugging production issues, often while interacting with VPs of Procurement or customer IT teams. The role leverages the agentic software factory to rapidly build customer-specific integrations and prototypes, ensuring they are production-ready. Additionally, this role serves as the engineering presence in the US timezone, providing on-call coverage and ensuring customers receive expert responses around the clock, supported by investments in observability, runbooks, and agent tooling.

Requirements

  • Solid engineering fundamentals, at any level of experience.
  • AI-pilled, genuinely. Your instinct is to hand work to agents first, and you want to turn over as much as possible to AI, in your own workflow and in the product. You have the judgment to know when it worked.
  • A deep-seated need to make your customers successful. This role is measured in customer outcomes, not tickets closed, and you treat anything standing between a customer and a win as something to bulldoze, not something to wait on.
  • Ownership by default. No one here is just on a team. Everyone owns and leads something, and you should want that.
  • TypeScript and Node.js experience (NestJS a plus), plus PostgreSQL knowledge and comfort with Docker. We care more about fundamentals than exact-stack trivia.
  • An incredible attitude, internally and with customers. You are unflappable on a tense call, generous with teammates, and genuinely curious about the customer's problem rather than just the ticket in front of you.
  • Exceptional communication. You can move between a customer's CFO, their integration engineer, and our platform team in one afternoon and leave all three feeling heard.
  • Comfort with ambiguity. Customer environments are messy, requirements shift, and you treat that as the job rather than an obstacle to it.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior forward deployed, solutions engineering, sales engineering, or professional services experience at an enterprise software company.
  • Familiarity with procurement, finance, or ERP ecosystems (Ariba, Coupa, NetSuite, SAP, Workday).

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical side of customer relationships: implementation, integration, workflow configuration, and go-live for enterprise procurement deployments.
  • Build integrations between Levelpath and customer systems (ERP, HRIS, SSO, finance tools) with TypeScript, NestJS, and PostgreSQL, and guide customer teams building their own against our GraphQL API.
  • Run technical calls end to end: discovery, architecture, live debugging, executive readouts. You are the face of Levelpath engineering for our US customers.
  • Prototype fast with agents, then harden what sticks: schema enforcement, validation, graceful degradation, and knowing where things break.
  • Anchor US-hours on-call and turn every incident into better tooling, better runbooks, and a better product.
  • Be the voice of the customer inside engineering, turning field reality into roadmap signal.

Benefits

  • Top salary and equity
  • AI-paced culture
  • A team that plays like pros: high standards, high growth, no passengers
  • Ability to have strong customer context and autonomy
  • 401K, Medical, Dental and Vision insurance
