Forward Deployed Engineer

Prudentia Sciences•Cambridge, MA
•$162,000 - $215,000

About The Position

Prudentia Sciences is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to serve as its senior technical presence in client engagements. The role bridges the platform’s out-of-the-box capabilities and each client’s data, workflows, security requirements, and near-term needs. You will work with client stakeholders to scope problems, integrate the platform with client systems and data, build configurations and extensions, and translate field experience into product and platform improvements. The role spans engineering, data, AI/ML, and commercial work. You will lead technical client onboarding and deployment from discovery through go-live and expansion; integrate internal databases, data rooms, document repositories, licensed datasets, and identity providers; and build production-quality workflows, configurations, models, and extensions on the AWS-based platform. You will apply AI capabilities to client-specific questions, assess the accuracy and defensibility of outputs, partner on data onboarding and quality standards, and build evaluations and guardrails for client use cases. You will also represent field needs to engineering and product, turn recurring solutions into reusable components and platform features, and help determine what should be productized, configurable, or declined. As a trusted technical advisor, you will support client accounts and executive sponsors, assist with technical discovery, pilots, and proofs of value, and help develop the forward deployed playbook and team.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience, including meaningful experience in client-facing, forward deployed, solutions engineering, or technical consulting roles where shipped code was relied upon by clients.
  • Strong full-stack or backend engineering skills, including Python and SQL, API and integration experience, and ability to work across a modern web stack.
  • Hands-on AWS experience deploying and operating production systems, with ability to reason about security, networking, and cost in client environments.
  • Practical experience with LLMs and AI applications, including retrieval, prompting, extraction, and evaluation, and judgment about when AI outputs are suitable for clients.
  • Excellent communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences, including the ability to lead working sessions with scientists or investors and explain tradeoffs to engineers.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ownership, including defining incompletely specified problems while clients are waiting for solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in life sciences, biopharma, healthcare, or financial services, especially with clinical trial, scientific literature, or deal data.
  • Experience with enterprise integration patterns, including SSO/SAML, data room APIs, data pipelines, and security questionnaires.
  • Experience at an early-stage or high-growth startup, helping define a function rather than joining an established one.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical side of client onboarding and deployment, from discovery and scoping through go-live and expansion.
  • Integrate Prudentia with client systems and data, including internal databases, data rooms, document repositories, licensed datasets, and identity providers, while working within security and compliance requirements.
  • Build client-specific workflows, configurations, models, and extensions on the AWS-based platform to production standards.
  • Apply LLMs, retrieval, extraction, scenario modeling, and risk modeling to client-specific questions, and evaluate whether outputs are accurate and defensible.
  • Partner with the data team to onboard client and third-party data sources and establish provenance and quality standards.
  • Build evaluations and guardrails for client use cases so quality is measured.
  • Bring field patterns, gaps, and requests to engineering and product with actionable technical detail.
  • Turn repeated one-off solutions into reusable components, templates, and platform features, contributing to the core codebase.
  • Help determine what should be productized, configurable, or declined.
  • Act as the technical point of contact for client accounts, from day-to-day users through executive sponsors.
  • Support pre-sales technical discovery, pilots, and proofs of value with strategic prospects.
  • Help build the forward deployed playbook and shape the growing team.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • Opportunity to do work that directly enables breakthrough therapies to reach patients faster.
  • Ownership in building and leading the platform as a foundational engineering leader.
  • Opportunity to shape the product experience during a critical scaling phase.
  • Collaborative, mission-driven colleagues passionate about transforming biopharma.
