Forward Deployed Engineer - NY
About The Position
Scope Labs is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to work directly with startup customers, owning the technical relationship and helping them adopt AI tooling. The role combines software engineering, product judgment, and customer partnership. The engineer will work in customer production environments, identify opportunities to apply AI to workflows, and deliver integrations and solutions that create meaningful value. The role requires autonomy, sound judgment in ambiguous situations, and accountability for customer outcomes. It is an in-person position in New York City; candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the area.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in a technical, customer-facing role, such as Forward Deployed Engineer or Solutions Engineer, or as a Software Engineer with consulting or startup experience.
- Strong proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript, with a track record of shipping production software.
- Hands-on experience deploying or integrating AI tooling, including LLMs, AI agents, or AI-native developer tools, into real workflows.
- Ability to operate with high agency in ambiguous environments and with limited direction.
- Strong communication skills with senior engineers and non-technical founders.
- Team-first attitude and ability to manage multiple customer engagements simultaneously.
- Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the New York, NY area.

Responsibilities
- Own the full technical customer lifecycle, from initial deployment through activation and ongoing utilization.
- Work with startup engineering teams to understand workflows, identify high-impact AI use cases, and ship integrations.
- Represent the customer internally by sharing patterns, friction points, and product insights with Product and Engineering teams to help shape the roadmap.
