Forward Deployed Engineer

Adobe•Lehi, UT
•$159,200 - $301,600

About The Position

Adobe Workfront is an enterprise work management platform used to plan, run, and measure work across large organizations. The Forward Deployed Engineer works at the intersection of software engineering, solution architecture, and technical consulting, embedded with strategic customers to solve platform challenges, design scalable integrations, and support adoption and expansion. The role is part of a small, autonomous, cross-functional Customer Pod with end-to-end ownership of customer work. As a senior engineer, you set technical direction for assigned accounts, mentor other builders, and connect customer needs with platform capabilities. You are the pod's hands-on technical execution backbone, delivering customer-facing solutions through rapid experimentation, prototyping, close feedback loops, documented decisions, and staged rollouts. The role involves owning technical relationships from discovery through go-live and expansion, building and shipping integrations and extensions, troubleshooting production issues, and feeding customer and field patterns back to product and engineering. The position is associated with Adobe's Lehi engineering community. Adobe describes its culture as empowering employees to make an impact and offers comprehensive benefits programs, though specific benefits are not listed here.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated customer empathy and ability to understand customer constraints and definitions of success.
  • Senior-level ownership, including proactively identifying problems and driving them to resolution.
  • Clear communication with technical and executive audiences in workshops, architecture reviews, and briefings.
  • Business acumen and ability to understand a use case before selecting technology.
  • Strong software engineering craft, including writing code, building prototypes, and shipping working software.
  • Sound judgment in data models, API design, and system integration trade-offs.
  • Fluency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent, and interest in building toward agentic capabilities.
  • Experience with work management platforms such as Workfront or comparable project, portfolio, resource, planning, proofing, and approval workflow tools.
  • Experience with REST APIs, webhooks, event-driven patterns, and low-code or workflow orchestration tools such as Workfront Fusion.
  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture, including multi-system integration, SSO and identity, data flows, and API design across complex environments.
  • Strong application development skills in a modern language such as Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Python.
  • Experience with AWS or Azure, as well as reporting and analytics pipelines.
  • Knowledge of enterprise permissions, data privacy, and regulated-industry constraints.
  • Typical background of 8 to 12 years in software engineering, solution architecture, technical consulting, or customer-facing engineering; the posting emphasizes demonstrated impact over titles or years.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Adobe Experience Cloud or Creative Cloud products, including Adobe Experience Manager Assets, Workfront Planning, or Adobe GenStudio.
  • Background in SaaS work management, PPM, or marketing operations platforms.
  • Experience building agentic or LLM-powered workflows in enterprise settings.
  • Experience in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, or government.
  • Track record of driving architecture decisions at team or organization level.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with strategic customers to understand workflows, systems, security requirements, and business goals.
  • Translate complex customer problems into scalable solution designs, reference architectures, and working prototypes.
  • Build and ship custom integrations and extensions across Workfront Workflow, Workfront Planning, Workfront Fusion, APIs, and adjacent Adobe and third-party systems.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues involving data and permissions models, automation, reporting, and performance.
  • Lead architecture workshops, health checks, and technical deep dives.
  • Prototype and iterate quickly, using AI-assisted tools as a standard part of the work.
  • Feed field patterns back to product and engineering to help shape the Workfront roadmap.
  • Mentor engineers in the pod and establish practices for documenting decisions and learnings.
  • Own the technical relationship with assigned accounts from discovery through go-live and expansion.
  • Work with the pod to run time-boxed experiments, maintain customer feedback loops, prototype before fully building, document decisions, and use staged rollouts to reduce risk.
