Forward Deployed Engineer

Adobe•Lehi, UT

About The Position

The Forward Deployed Engineer works at the intersection of software engineering, solution architecture, and technical consulting, embedded with Adobe Workfront’s most strategic customers. The role partners directly with customer teams to address platform challenges, design scalable integrations, and build solutions that support adoption and expansion. Within a small, autonomous, cross-functional Customer Pod, the engineer provides technical direction for assigned accounts, mentors other builders, and connects customer needs with platform capabilities. The position combines customer engagement with hands-on implementation. The engineer translates customer workflows, systems, security requirements, and business goals into solution designs, reference architectures, prototypes, integrations, and extensions. Work includes production issue resolution, architecture workshops, technical deep dives, and collaboration with product and engineering teams to inform the Workfront roadmap. The role owns the technical relationship with assigned accounts from discovery through go-live and expansion, and uses AI-assisted development tools as part of the work.

Requirements

  • Typically 8 to 12 years of experience in software engineering, solution architecture, technical consulting, or customer-facing engineering; demonstrated impact matters more than title or years.
  • Strong skills in a modern programming language such as Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Python.
  • Experience with REST APIs, webhooks, event-driven patterns, and low-code or workflow orchestration tools such as Workfront Fusion.
  • Enterprise architecture knowledge, including multi-system integration, SSO and identity, data flows, and API design across complex environments.
  • Cloud experience with AWS or Azure, along with reporting and analytics pipelines.
  • Knowledge of enterprise permissions, data privacy, and regulated-industry constraints.
  • Ability to build prototypes and ship working software, with designs grounded in implementation realities.
  • Ability to make sound trade-offs in data models, API design, and system integration.
  • Customer empathy and the ability to understand customer constraints, workflows, and measures of success.
  • Senior-level ownership, including proactively finding problems and driving them to resolution.
  • Clear communication with technical and executive audiences in workshops, architecture reviews, and briefings.
  • Business acumen to understand the use case before selecting technology.
  • Growth mindset and fluency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent, with an interest in building toward agentic capabilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Adobe Experience Cloud or Creative Cloud products, including Adobe Experience Manager Assets, Workfront Planning, or Adobe GenStudio.
  • Background in SaaS work management, PPM, or marketing operations platforms.
  • Experience building agentic or LLM-powered workflows in enterprise settings.
  • Experience in regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, or government.
  • A track record of driving architecture decisions at team or organization level.
  • Experience with Workfront or comparable work management platforms covering project, portfolio, resource, planning, proofing, and approval workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with strategic customers to understand their workflows, systems, security requirements, and business goals.
  • Translate complex customer problems into scalable solution designs, reference architectures, and working prototypes.
  • Build and ship custom integrations and extensions across Workfront Workflow, Workfront Planning, Workfront Fusion, APIs, and adjacent Adobe and third-party systems.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues involving data and permissions models, automation, reporting, and performance.
  • Lead architecture workshops, health checks, and technical deep dives.
  • Prototype and iterate quickly, using AI-assisted tools as a standard part of the work.
  • Feed patterns observed in the field back to product and engineering teams to help shape the Workfront roadmap.
  • Mentor engineers in the pod and establish practices for documenting decisions and learnings.
  • Own the technical relationship with assigned accounts from discovery through go-live and expansion.
  • Work within a cross-functional Customer Pod, using time-boxed experiments, customer feedback loops, prototyping, documented decisions, and staged rollouts.
