Forward Deployed Engineer

Re:Build Manufacturing•Framingham, MA
•Onsite

About The Position

The Forward Deployed Engineer is embedded at a harness manufacturing plant and supports the day-to-day operation of Cadonix’s smartBuild harness manufacturing software. Working directly with production, engineering, and quality teams, the engineer resolves local issues, builds relationships with plant collaborators, and helps improve the system. The role uses hands-on AWS cloud development experience to build and maintain scripts, integrations, and tools supporting site operations, and serves as a liaison to Cadonix’s development team for feature enhancements and change requests. The engineer provides on-site production support, engages with remote Product, Development, and QA teams across time zones, and works alongside a senior Forward Deployed Engineer. They gather and prioritize plant feedback, support on-site user acceptance testing, develop AWS-based tools in accordance with development standards, track defects through resolution, train and support users, and maintain site-specific procedures and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience combined with education.
  • 3–5 years of experience in software development, support, or implementation.
  • Understanding of production environments and shop-floor workflows.
  • Experience engaging directly with customers.
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying applications on AWS, such as Lambda, EC2, S3, RDS, API Gateway, CloudWatch, and IAM.
  • Proficiency in Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, or C#.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases, Windows and Linux environments, and web-based applications and APIs.
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for smartBuild at the plant and triage, diagnose, and resolve software, configuration, data, integration, and connected shop-floor hardware issues, prioritizing those affecting production output.
  • Work effectively with remote Product, Development, and QA teams across time zones and collaborate with a senior Forward Deployed Engineer on site, taking guidance and sharing workload.
  • Work with plant collaborators to understand manufacturing processes and difficulties; document and prioritize feature improvements and modification requests, review them with Cadonix Product and Development teams, and support on-site user acceptance testing before features are rolled out.
  • Develop and maintain AWS-based scripts, integrations, reports, and small tools that facilitate site operations, following development-team standards for code review, testing, and deployment.
  • Report defects to the development team with reproducible steps, logs, and business impact; track issues to resolution, verify fixes on site, and lead root-cause analysis for recurring or high-impact problems.
  • Train and support operators, supervisors, and engineers on the system.
  • Maintain site-specific procedures, runbooks, and a knowledge base so common issues can be resolved quickly and consistently.
