About The Position

Risely is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to own customer deployments from contract signing to product functionality within their institution. This role involves navigating complex university systems, data, and workflows to deliver working software solutions. The engineer will be responsible for various aspects of the stack, including integrations, custom dashboards, and potentially rewriting workflows under tight deadlines. The position emphasizes rapid deployment cycles, with a focus on delivering solutions in weeks rather than months.

Requirements

  • Full-stack development experience with a focus on customer interaction.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript, Python, React, Node, and SQL.
  • Ability to debug data pipelines, implement frontend changes, and design APIs within the same day.
  • Strong data handling skills, including mapping, cleaning, and reconciling messy, partial, and inconsistent institutional data.
  • A 'shipper' mentality, prioritizing rapid delivery of working solutions.
  • Excellent customer communication skills, translating technical concepts into business value and building customer trust.
  • Experience with AI orchestration, specifically using agents like Claude Code, and understanding their leverage points.
  • 1-5 years of experience building full-stack production systems.

Responsibilities

  • Customer deployments end to end, including kickoff, discovery, technical design, build, launch, and initial usage support.
  • Data engineering, including mapping customer data, building pipelines, and normalizing schemas across various university systems (SIS, LMS, CRM, advancement, finance).
  • Building backend APIs and integrations that connect customer systems with Risely's agents.
  • Developing customer-facing frontend interfaces for dashboards and advisor tools.
  • Configuring and customizing agents and workflows to match specific customer operational needs.
  • Managing the go-live process, including cutover plans, dry runs, rollback strategies, and immediate issue resolution.
  • Training customers on product usage, building runbooks, and gathering real-time feedback.
  • Identifying recurring customer-specific problems and escalating them to the platform team for broader solutions.
