Forward Deployed Engineer

Beacon BiosignalsBoston, MA
$150,000 - $170,000Remote

About The Position

Beacon Biosignals is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to join their Datastore team. The Datastore is central to Beacon’s platform, responsible for the foundational data model and acting as the central repository and API for brain data from clinical studies and home sleep tests. This role involves working with external partners to understand their technical use cases, guide integrations with Beacon’s APIs and datasets, and develop integrated solutions. Internally, the engineer will collaborate with Datastore engineers, product managers, and scientific teams to translate partner needs into data models, tools, and workflows, and to improve client issue resolution. The role focuses on deploying and extending Beacon’s data platform in real-world contexts, rather than building core infrastructure. Responsibilities include developing Proofs of Concept (PoCs) and production-ready code, building analyses and dashboards, and creating integration tooling. Beacon offers a remote work experience with office hubs in Boston, New York City, and Paris.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience developing and supporting data platform solutions (hands-on coding is required for this position).
  • 3+ years in a customer-facing role, developing and managing customer relationships.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, with hands-on experience designing and maintaining analytical or operational data models.
  • Experience working directly with customers or external stakeholders to solve data-related problems, including requirements gathering, solution design, and delivery.
  • Comfort operating across the stack—from querying and modeling data to writing application or integration code as needed.
  • Proficiency in a data-oriented programming language such as Python, Julia, or R.
  • Familiarity with APIs and data integration patterns (GraphQL or REST, batch exports and ELT/ETL, event sourcing, and the like).
  • Experience with modern analytics and BI tools such as Snowflake, Superset, Looker, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with external partners and customers to understand their data needs, analytical workflows, and technical constraints, and translate those into concrete solutions built on Beacon’s Datastore.
  • Lead technical conversations with partner engineers and data teams, supporting API integrations, successful adoption of data access patterns and practices, and downstream analytics.
  • Design and implement solutions for customers, sometimes on the Beacon platform and sometimes on the customer’s platform, to kickstart and expedite integration and provide examples that showcase and validate Beacon’s data.
  • Collaborate with the rest of the Datastore team to develop internal tools, queries, and workflows that improve observability, troubleshooting, and resolution of client data issues.
  • Leverage feedback from partners and internal stakeholders to improve documentation, APIs, data models, and operational processes.
