Forward Deployed Engineer
About The Position
PointOne is a venture-backed startup building an AI-powered timekeeper that helps law firms capture billable time automatically and provides insights into how legal work is managed. As an early member of the engineering team, the Forward Deployed Engineer will help shape their role and the product’s underlying infrastructure while working directly with customers and contributing to technical and product decisions. The role focuses on helping strategic customer accounts succeed, developing AI products and workflows, and turning customer needs into technical solutions. The engineer will prototype and integrate AI pipelines, including retrieval-augmented generation, and help shape the engineering culture through mentoring, pairing, and code reviews. PointOne’s technology includes a serverless AWS backend made up of Go microservices, React and TypeScript client applications for web, desktop, and mobile, and internally developed RAG pipelines. Compensation is based on factors including prior experience and expertise, and includes a competitive equity component.
Requirements
- 2–8 years of experience at hyper-growth startups.
- A computer science degree from a top university.
- Strong product sense.
- A high degree of ownership and the ability to operate autonomously.
- Excitement about working in person, collaborating directly with customers, and building products that professionals rely on every day.
Responsibilities
- Drive the success of strategic customer accounts by partnering and executing alongside law firm leadership.
- Develop novel AI products that provide customers with new workflows.
- Regularly connect with and visit customers to understand their needs, prioritize requests, and translate them into technical solutions.
- Prototype and integrate AI pipelines, such as retrieval-augmented generation, to prove out new workflows.
- Mentor future hires, pair with colleagues, and conduct code reviews.
- Help shape the engineering culture and contribute to technical and product decisions.
