About The Position

Lunon is a small, General Catalyst-backed company that combines strategy and software to help ambitious companies become AI-native. As a Forward Deployed Data Engineer, you will own the data foundation for Lunon's AI systems, making data complete, traceable, and trusted. You will work alongside a Forward Deployed AI Engineer who owns the models. The first project is helping an ERP company make its product AI-native. The role is remote within the US; Lunon is headquartered in New York City.

Requirements

• Have built and operated production data pipelines and maintained them when they broke.
• Write excellent Python and SQL.
• Have worked with a warehouse or lakehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or Postgres.
• Be able to organize data from systems you did not design.
• Have prepared data for an ML or LLM system, such as training sets, evaluation sets, or retrieval.
• Use AI coding tools every day and evaluate their results by the system they produce.

Nice To Haves

• Experience building on or integrating with an ERP, CRM, or accounting system.
• Experience building data quality or lineage tooling that others depended on.
• Consulting or forward-deployed experience, with the ability to earn trust inside a company that is not your own.

Responsibilities

• Extract data from ERP, CRM, and accounting systems and design ingestion, transformation, and storage pipelines.
• Establish data quality and lineage controls so figures can be traced to their sources.
• Curate training and evaluation datasets used to train and assess models.
• Run data systems in production at enterprise scale and own their reliability.
• Leave infrastructure that the client company's team can operate and extend.
