About The Position

The Forward Deployed Data Engineer owns the data side of client engagements: extracting data from existing systems, making it trustworthy, and building the pipelines and datasets used by AI systems. The engineer works alongside a Forward Deployed AI Engineer, who owns the models. The initial engagement is helping an ERP company make its product AI-native. The role is fully remote and US-based.

Requirements

• Have built and operated data pipelines in production, including troubleshooting them when they break.
• Write Python and SQL well.
• Have worked with a data warehouse or lakehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or Postgres.
• Have made sense of messy data from systems that you did not design.
• Have built data for an ML or LLM system, such as training sets, evaluation sets, or retrieval.
• Use AI coding tools every day and evaluate results based on the system and its output rather than the programming language.

Nice To Haves

• Have built on or integrated with an ERP, CRM, or accounting system.
• Have built data quality or lineage tooling relied on by others.
• Have experience in consulting, agency, or forward-deployed work and know how to be useful in a client's workplace on day two.

Responsibilities

• Build pipelines to ingest, process, and store data from ERP, CRM, and accounting systems.
• Implement data quality and lineage controls so users can trace data back to its source.
• Build and manage training and evaluation datasets used to train and assess models.
• Run data systems reliably in production at enterprise scale.
• Document systems and hand them off so the client's team can operate them independently.
