About The Position

JLL is deploying AI agents into business workflows to automate processes, support decision-making, and integrate with business systems. The Forward Deployed AI Engineer owns an assigned business area as a one-person engineering team, partnering with business subject-matter experts and operators to turn their needs into production agents and MCP integrations. The role is supported by the central AI Center of Excellence, which provides methodology, platform, and patterns. Mature systems are handed off to platform and operations teams as they stabilize.

The engineer uses AI tools as a primary part of their workflow, installing hooks, skills, workflows, and automations to ship safely to production. The position works across business, product, and engineering, with a direct connection to JLL’s central AI platform. It is based on-site in Chicago, Illinois, and does not provide visa sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Requirements

• Experience shipping production agents using Claude Agent SDK, MCP, or an equivalent stack.
• Production coding experience in at least one of Python, Node, or .NET, with comfort working across the others.
• Experience with diverse data stores, including relational, NoSQL, object/blob, vector, and document stores.
• Experience operating end-to-end as a one-person team, covering design, delivery, support, and handoff.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort working with non-engineers.
• Pragmatic judgment about when to ship, harden, or hand off systems.
• Systems-thinking skills and a focus on failure modes; responsibility for AI-generated code.
• Comfort with tasking and running multiple agents in parallel as part of a daily workflow.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship AI agents in close partnership with business subject-matter experts and operators.
• Establish MCP servers and connectors, beginning in pre-production and advancing through CDR into production.
• Bootstrap skills, integrations, and evaluations on JLL’s AI platform, including its LLM gateway, shared RAG services, and MCP toolchain.
• Run workshops with business teams, teach them to use Claude Code, and translate their workflows into agent skills.
• Hand mature systems off to platform and operations teams once they outgrow the bootstrap phase.
• Share patterns, anti-patterns, and platform gaps with the Center of Excellence to help future engineers work more effectively.
• Design, ship, support, and hand off systems as an end-to-end, one-person engineering team.
