Forward Deployed AI Engineer
About The Position
JLL is deploying AI agents into its business to automate workflows, support decision-making, and integrate with business systems. The Forward Deployed AI Engineer owns an assigned business area as a one-person engineering team, using the central AI Center of Excellence’s methodology, platform, and patterns alongside business problems and subject-matter expertise to build and ship agents and MCP integrations. Mature solutions are handed off to platform and operations teams as they stabilize. The role relies on AI tools as a primary part of the engineering workflow, including hooks, skills, workflows, and automations that enable safe production delivery. The position is full-time and on-site in Chicago, Illinois. Expected compensation is $187,100–$229,200 per year. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship; visa sponsorship is not provided.
Requirements
- Experience shipping production agents using Claude Agent SDK, MCP, or an equivalent stack.
- Production coding experience in at least one of Python, Node, or .NET, with comfort moving across the others.
- Experience working with diverse data stores, including relational, NoSQL, object/blob, vector, and document stores.
- Experience operating end-to-end as a one-person team, including design, shipping, support, and handoff.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort working with non-engineers.
- Pragmatic judgment about when to ship, harden, or hand off systems.
- Systems thinking and focus on failure modes, with responsibility for AI-generated code.
- Comfort with tasking and running multiple agents in parallel as part of a daily workflow.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship agents for business teams in close partnership with business subject-matter experts and operators.
- Stand up MCP servers and connectors, beginning in pre-production and progressing through CDR into production.
- Bootstrap skills, integrations, and evaluations on JLL’s AI platform, including its LLM gateway, shared RAG services, and MCP toolchain.
- Run workshops with business teams, teach them to use Claude Code, and translate their workflows into agent skills.
- Hand mature systems off to platform and operations teams when they outgrow the bootstrap phase.
- Share patterns, anti-patterns, and platform gaps with the Center of Excellence to help future forward-deployed engineers work more efficiently.
