About The Position

The Forklift Operator is responsible for transferring products using an industrial forklift, hand lift, or pallet jack in compliance with safety procedures, company, and USDA requirements. This role involves moving and storing products, operating pallet jacks, delivering materials, performing routine equipment servicing, and assisting with inventory and reporting.

Requirements

  • Must be able to move or lift up to 50 pounds of supplies anywhere from floor to shoulder level.
  • Std waterproof gloves, hearing protection, chemical resistant apron & gloves, face shield, reinforced toe footwear.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference of poultry or food processing organization.
  • Military experience and veterans are welcome.

Responsibilities

  • Transfer products using an industrial forklift, hand lift, or pallet jack in compliance with safety procedures, company, and USDA requirements.
  • Store and move product using an industrial forklift, hand lift, or pallet jack.
  • Operate an electronic or hand-operated pallet jack between departments, buildings, and grounds.
  • Collect and deliver a wide variety of materials while adhering to established safety procedures.
  • Deliver materials to work areas as directed from the production supervisor.
  • Stack materials in storage areas and load/unload shipments in trailers.
  • Ensure product or equipment being moved is undamaged and handled in a safe manner.
  • Perform routine servicing of equipment such as changing batteries, charging batteries, and checking tires.
  • Identify any mechanical problems or damage with the pallet jack and ensure the problems are reported to the supervisor for further inspection and repair.
  • Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
  • Perform visual safety inspection of the machine before operation.
  • Load and unload trucks, stacking and consolidating partial pallets.
  • Assist with inventory, correctly recording numbers and codes.
  • Keep the dock area clear and organized to ensure efficient work flow.
  • Complete and deliver daily and weekly reports to the floor supervisor.
  • Participate as a member of the Team, fostering strong cohesiveness and resolving issues.
  • Maintain familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems and understand the role in support of these systems.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
