About The Position

The Factory Forklift Operator and Skilled Labourer is responsible for safely operating forklifts and material handling equipment within the manufacturing facility to support production, material flow, staging, loading, shrink wrapping, and general shop labour. This role helps keep production areas stocked and organized, supports Forepersons and production teams, and assists with hands-on labourer tasks when forklift work is complete. The Factory Forklift Operator Skilled Labourer reports directly to the Forepersons. This is a factory-focused role, with priority placed on supporting internal shop operations, production stations, finished components, and safe movement of materials throughout the plant. Weekend Shift: Enjoy a condensed work schedule. This position works Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 12 hours per day. Employees who complete all three full shifts receive 40 paid hours for the weekend.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid forklift operator certification is required.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on role that includes both forklift operation and general labourer tasks.
  • Ability to operate industrial vehicles safely and efficiently in a busy indoor production environment.
  • Basic math skills for inventory counts, quantity checks, and material tracking.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Physical stamina and strength to handle a physically demanding job.
  • Reliable, safety-minded, and able to support changing production priorities throughout the shift.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience operating forklifts in a factory, manufacturing, warehouse, or production environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with factory material handling, staging, inventory flow, and production support is an asset.
  • Wood framing construction knowledge and experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate forklifts to move lumber, panels, components, finished product, and other materials throughout the factory.
  • Load, unload, move, and stage materials within designated production, storage, and loading areas.
  • Reload and stage materials at workstations to keep production moving and reduce downtime for other team members.
  • Complete swap deck loading, including organizing, staging, and preparing materials or finished components for movement.
  • Assist with shrink wrapping finished materials and preparing product for storage, transfer, or shipping.
  • Support accurate inventory records by verifying quantities, item numbers, and materials moved or received.
  • Organize and secure materials in the correct factory storage and staging locations.
  • Inspect materials and finished products for damage, discrepancies, or quality concerns and report issues to the Forepersons.
  • Support daily labourer tasks, including material preparation, sorting, cleanup, component handling, and general production assistance.
  • Use remaining time to help debottleneck the shop by jumping into priority areas where production support is needed.
  • Perform daily forklift and equipment checks to ensure equipment is safe, clean, and operational.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or material flow issues to the Forepersons immediately.
  • Keep factory aisles, workstations, staging areas, loading areas, and equipment areas clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Operate factory equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Communicate material shortages, staging needs, quality concerns, and production delays to the Forepersons or production team.
  • Ensure accurate and damage-free handling of materials, panels, components, and finished products.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and update records accurately.
  • Maintain a log of daily forklift activity, material movement, and assigned work as required.
