About The Position

Hadco Metal Trading, a well-established, nationally recognized distributor of semi-finished metals and plastics, is looking to hire an experienced Forklift Driver to work overnights at our Melville, NY facility. The role involves safely unloading various types of metal material and product, such as stainless steel and aluminum plate, sheet, and bar stock from evening tractor trailer deliveries, and reloading flatbed trucks with completed and packaged customer orders for next day deliveries. The work schedule is Sunday-Thursday from 11:30 PM to 7:30 AM. Hadco Metal Trading is a well-respected service center specializing in the nationwide distribution of semifinished metals including aluminum, stainless steel, carbon, related alloys, and mechanical grade plastics. Their business model focuses on an extensive inventory of over 20,000 distinct items and expedited delivery service to meet customers’ “just-in-time” needs. Branches are strategically located across the US with transfer stations enabling nationwide presence and next-day delivery capability.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years of experience as a safe forklift operator in a distribution environment where responsibilities include loading/unloading tractor trailers and flatbed trucks.
  • Experience moving large, heavy, often bulky loads (metal products come in all sizes, shapes, lengths, and weights).
  • Ability to work overnight Sunday-Thursday 11:30PM-7:30AM without exception.
  • Commitment to report to work on time and reliable transportation.
  • Experience using computers, scanners, and related technology and systems used in warehousing and distribution.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and climb on to truck beds as needed.
  • Minimum 18 years of age.

  • Knowledge of the transportation industry and logistics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate forklift to offload material orders from overnight shuttles.
  • Safely load completed orders onto flatbed trucks for next day deliveries.
  • Assure that material is carefully and safely loaded for optimum, damage-free delivery.
  • Communicate with delivery drivers daily.
  • Scan material documents to maintain accurate inventory and shipping records.
  • Utilize computer systems such as our company ERP system for routing, inventory, and other necessary information.
  • Comply with transportation-related policies, for proper distribution of weight per DOT and government regulations.
  • Promote safe work activities and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
