About The Position

The Forge Operator is responsible for forging aluminum slugs into parts using a forge press. This role involves following work instructions, verifying material specifications, setting up and operating machinery, and identifying and correcting defects. The operator will also be responsible for completing paperwork, monitoring equipment and processes, and maintaining a safe work environment.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Ability to read, comprehend, and follow instructions
Ability to work under pressure and adhere to schedules
Ability to read a tape measure
Ability to operate hand tools such as spray gun and forge tongs
Ability to work safely and keep area clean
Ability to work assigned shift and remain awake and alert during assigned shift
Reporting to work for assigned shift, maintaining a physical presence and performing assigned work for the duration of assigned shift
Demonstrated ability to work well with all levels of the organization
Good verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
Able to communicate clearly, concisely and achieve intended objectives
Ability to work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise, and all weather conditions
Must be able to handle up to 80 lbs on a regular basis throughout the 8 hour shift
Specific vision abilities required include close vision

Responsibilities

Work from production order, job ticket and/or direction of supervisor to produce parts according to work instructions.
Verify material correctness and dimensions according to specifications.
Set-up Maxi and Screw presses, including setting up and removing different dies.
Perform checks on die and bolster plate bolts.
Understand press settings and troubleshoot settings when necessary.
Understand proper slug location, tolerances, temperature settings, tonnage, alloys and lube mixtures.
Identify defects/non-conforming marks in forged parts and make appropriate corrections.
Complete appropriate paperwork such as visual inspection records, daily checklists, and routing sign offs.
Identify equipment issues and notify supervisor and/or maintenance.
Monitor DAS stations to ensure proper operation of press, part rate, and temperature.
Monitor furnace temperature and speed to ensure proper heating of slugs and/or parts.
Inspect dies after use and tag dies requiring further inspection or rework.
Notify Quality of quality issues.
Maintain daily timekeeping, production, and interventions on computer systems.
Report unusual or unsafe conditions to supervisor.
Actively participate in efforts to establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment, following policies and procedures for accident reduction and elimination, and providing feedback for safer work behaviors and conditions.
