About The Position

Start an exciting outdoor career as a Forest Technician with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. In this role, you will help care for river islands and support conservation activities across the district. You will gain hands-on experience in forest management, restoration, and field operations. This position supports the management and care of forest resources with a focus on the Susquehanna River Islands. It plays an important role in maintaining recreational areas, supporting conservation projects, and assisting with forest operations.

Requirements

  • An associate’s degree in forest technology; or Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain campsites, improve access, remove debris, and support care of river island infrastructure
  • Collect data on plant species, island features, and tree measurements to support planning and management
  • Manage invasive species and support habitat protection across river islands
  • Maintain boating equipment and tools used for forestry and island work
  • Mark island boundaries and assist with deed searches to confirm ownership
  • Assist with timber preparation, regeneration programs, and monitoring forest health issues
