The Forest Maintenance Worker role with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources lets you work outdoors, learn new skills, and support public enjoyment of natural spaces. You take part in projects that improve safety, maintain facilities, and protect forest resources. This is a great opportunity to grow your abilities while helping preserve the environment within the Forbes Forest District! This role focuses on maintaining forest facilities, trails, signs, and equipment across the Pondfield Division and other assigned areas. The work supports safe public use of state forests and helps keep essential infrastructure in good condition.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Construct new signs and install them along trail systems
  • Remove brush and fallen trees using both manual and motorized cutting tools
  • Clear, paint and maintain official State Forest boundary lines
  • Clean restrooms and pick up trash and debris
  • Install and maintain culverts and headwalls on roads and trails
  • Plow and shovel snow in winter and mow grass during warmer months
