About The Position

This position focuses on construction, maintenance, and wildfire support across the Pinchot State Forest. The work ensures that public spaces, facilities, and equipment remain safe, functional, and ready for use. As a Forest Maintenance Worker, you will perform duties such as maintaining and constructing roads, trails, district facilities, and forest infrastructure; mowing and clearing vegetation at various locations; inspecting and servicing vehicles, tools, and equipment; supporting wildfire prevention, detection, suppression, and training activities; and installing and repairing signs, gates, and kiosks. This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits, running from March to November annually. The work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Overtime may be required for training and emergencies. Telework is not an option.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and construct roads, trails, district facilities, and forest infrastructure.
  • Mow and clear vegetation at offices, field locations, trails, picnic areas, parking lots, signs, and fire towers.
  • Inspect and service vehicles, tools, and equipment to keep them in ready condition.
  • Support wildfire prevention, detection, suppression, and training activities.
  • Tag, paint, and clear boundary lines throughout state forest land.
  • Install and repair signs, gates, and kiosks, including digging, forming, mixing concrete, and painting.
