Works under the general direction of the CVRCC Nursing Coordinator to provide
nursing care to victims of sexual assault.
Requirements
Graduate of an accredited R.N. program and holds a master’s degree or higher
from an accredited Nursing
program.
Licensed as an R.N. and as an Advanced Practice Nurse with a certificate of
fitness for prescribing; AND
Certified through ANCC or AANP as a Nurse Practitioner.
PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Must
possess
a valid Tennessee driver’s license.
Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet County requirements
for automobile insurance
upon date of employment.
Must be willing to be “on-call” as scheduled and willing to work evenings,
nights, weekends, and holidays.
Must complete the Orientation/Training phase of employment within three
months of start.
Responsibilities
Interviews victims of sexual violence for histories of assault.
Performs physical exams of
adults and children
and documents accurately.
Documents injuries, pertinent physical findings, and child development via
diagrams and through clear digital photographs on the agency camera.
Collects evidence from victims.
Correctly packages this evidence, following standard chain of evidence
procedure.
Provides age-appropriate nursing care, regulated by the Tennessee Nurse
Practice Act.
Provides prophylactic treatment for certain STIs and
pregnancy,
utilizing
standard medical protocol.
Refers for emergency care and follow-up as
appropriate.
Testifies as an expert witness in Criminal, Juvenile, and Federal Courts.
Participates
in the training of nurses and physicians.
