About The Position

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia with more than 25,000 employees. They are the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. The team collaborates at the forefront of technology, manufacturing, and integration of powerful and survivable naval ships. The role involves supervising, assigning, coordinating, and evaluating semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel based on their skill, experience, and job knowledge. This position also includes supervising and training employees to enhance work quality and quantity, recommending training, and assisting in developing training procedures. The Foreman is responsible for breaking down strategies into action plans and ensuring employees are trained to execute them. Key responsibilities include complying with all technical aspects of the job, adhering to drawings and procedures, and overseeing manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that significantly impact company performance. The Foreman supervises qualified trades staff and monitors job and budget performance across all shifts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degreee OR
  • Apprentice OR
  • High School and 4 years combined manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades military experience OR
  • Associates Degree in a Trade/Technical and 3 years of relevant manufacturing, shipbuilding, trade and/or military experience

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge.
  • Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed.
  • Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures.
  • Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans.
  • Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc.
  • Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance.
  • Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts.
