About The Position

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia with more than 25,000 employees. The Foreman / Welding role involves supervising, assigning, coordinating, and evaluating semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience, and job knowledge. This position also includes supervising and training employees to improve work quality and quantity, recommending training to enhance skill and productivity, and assisting in the development of training procedures. The Foreman is responsible for breaking down broad strategies into practical action plans and ensuring employees are trained to perform these plans. Key responsibilities also include complying with all technical aspects of the job, such as adherence to drawings and procedures, and being responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that significantly impact the company's financial performance. The role requires supervising qualified trades staff and monitoring job and budget performance across all shifts.

Requirements

  • BS/Apprentice OR High School and 6 years related Trade experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge.
  • Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed.
  • Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures.
  • Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans.
  • Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc.
  • Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance.
  • Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts.
