About The Position

Reliable Electric and Lighting, Inc. is seeking an experienced Traveling Commercial Lighting Technician Foreman to lead large-scale interior and exterior lighting retrofit projects for national commercial retail clients. This role is ideal for a hands-on field leader with 5–10 years of commercial lighting retrofit experience who thrives in fast-paced, travel-based environments. This is a traveling position. We are specifically looking for someone who has experience leading a crew on commercial lighting projects. The right candidate should be comfortable taking responsibility for a project, directing technicians, communicating with Project Management, maintaining production, and making sure the job is completed safely and correctly.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Foreman, Lead Technician, Crew Leader, or similar leadership position.
  • Experience leading crews on commercial lighting retrofit, relamping, LED conversion, or lighting installation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial lighting fixtures, lamps, drivers, ballasts, controls, and related components.
  • Ability to read and understand project drawings, scopes of work, and installation requirements.
  • Experience working in active commercial or retail environments.
  • Ability to organize a crew and maintain project production.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills with employees, management, and customers.
  • Experience operating scissor lifts and boom lifts.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively.
  • Previous experience leading or supervising a crew on commercial lighting projects is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with commercial lighting retrofits, LED conversions, fixture replacements, and lighting installations.
  • Previous experience as a Lighting Foreman, Lead Lighting Technician, Crew Leader, Electrical Foreman, or similar field leadership position preferred.
  • Working knowledge of commercial lighting systems, including fixtures, lamps, LED drivers, ballasts, controls, and related components.
  • Ability to effectively lead, organize, and motivate a field crew while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Ability to review and understand project drawings, scopes of work, fixture schedules, and site documentation.
  • Ability to plan daily work, assign tasks, monitor production, and keep projects on schedule.
  • Strong communication skills with Project Managers, Superintendent, crew members, customers, and store personnel.
  • Ability to identify field problems, communicate issues quickly, and assist in developing solutions.
  • Experience performing quality-control inspections and verifying completed work.
  • Experience working in active commercial and retail environments.
  • Comfortable working from heights, including ladders, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.
  • Ability to safely operate or become certified to operate required aerial equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry lighting fixtures, tools, equipment, and materials as required.
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including days, nights, and occasional weekends, depending on customer and project requirements.
  • Must be willing and able to travel extensively throughout the United States and remain away from home for extended periods.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to use a smartphone or tablet for project communication, photographs, documentation, and reporting.
  • Dependable attendance and the ability to report to assigned projects as scheduled.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety, proper PPE use, and company safety procedures.
  • Must be able to work independently while also taking direction from the Superintendent and Project Management.
  • Must successfully complete Reliable Electric and Lighting's required pre-employment screening process.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of commercial lighting experience preferred.
  • Previous experience running a commercial lighting crew highly preferred.
  • Experience with large-scale retail or multi-site lighting retrofit programs.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
  • Aerial lift and boom lift certifications are a plus.
  • Electrical or lighting troubleshooting experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise crews of Commercial Lighting Technicians.
  • Perform and oversee commercial lighting retrofits, upgrades, and installations.
  • Assign daily work and maintain crew productivity.
  • Review project drawings, scope of work, fixture counts, site information, and project requirements.
  • Verify work is being completed according to project specifications.
  • Communicate daily with the Superintendent and Project Manager regarding progress, problems, material needs, and schedule.
  • Identify field conditions or project issues before they become larger problems.
  • Track project progress and help ensure production goals are achieved.
  • Train and develop Lighting Technicians assigned to your crew.
  • Perform quality-control inspections of completed work.
  • Ensure required project documentation, photographs, and closeout information are completed accurately.
  • Maintain accountability for company tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Enforce company safety requirements and proper PPE use.
  • Conduct work from ladders, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other elevated work platforms.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite.
  • Communicate professionally with store managers, customers, and other personnel at the jobsite.
  • Ensure the crew represents Reliable Electric and Lighting professionally at all times.
