Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of the foodservice industry; produce industry knowledge strongly preferred (restaurant experience a plus)
  • 3+ years of experience in retail, wholesale, or foodservice sales (preferably within the restaurant or produce industry)
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, generate leads, and close new business
  • Proven account management skills with the ability to grow and retain a book of business
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills; able to overcome objections professionally
  • Customer-service-driven and solutions-oriented; able to resolve issues calmly and effectively with a wide range of personalities
  • Self-motivated, resilient, and tenacious; thrives in a fast-paced, competitive environment
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through
  • Intermediate computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Excellent phone etiquette
  • Acceptable driving record and proof of insurance
  • Ability to work flexible hours and up to 50% travel

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and pursue new customers; manage the full sales cycle from outreach to onboarding, with a strong “hunter” mindset and consistent follow-through.
  • Influence decision-makers through value-based selling; confidently overcome objections, present profitable programs, and close new business while meeting sales and gross profit goals.
  • Own and grow a book of business; maintain strong customer relationships, anticipate needs, resolve service issues professionally, and protect profitability through effective pricing/program execution.
  • Communicate customer needs and preferences clearly and promptly to buyers, operations, transportation, and sales support to ensure accurate execution, timely deliveries, and high satisfaction.
  • Stay current on market conditions, product availability, and new items; ensure orders are submitted before cut-off times; complete credit memos/paperwork within required timelines; walk the warehouse/check product daily; maintain responsibility for quality and food safety.
