About The Position

Heritage Co-op is seeking a Food Store Manager to oversee all daily store operations, ensuring safe, effective, and compliant processes. This role involves managing inventory, product purchasing, merchandising, pricing, and store presentation. The Manager will provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to employees, determine staffing levels, and participate in recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee development. A key aspect of this role is promoting a positive, engaging, team-centered work environment. The Manager will also lead budgeting, financial reporting, expense management, and sales targets, while supporting marketing strategies, loyalty programs, promotions, and competitive pricing. Identifying consumer trends and recommending product selection or merchandising strategies to optimize sales is crucial. Ensuring exceptional customer service standards, resolving customer concerns promptly, and maintaining positive relationships with vendors, members, and community stakeholders are also key responsibilities. The Manager will represent Co-op values and support its community-focused mission.

Requirements

  • High School required.
  • 3-6+ years’ experience in a retail setting.
  • 1+ years of leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in inventory management, budgeting, merchandising, purchasing, and store presentation is essential.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with Food Safety, OH&S, and HR policies is critical.
  • A proven track record of delivering high‑quality customer service, resolving customer concerns, and maintaining strong vendor and community relationships is required.
  • Familiarity with maintenance planning, asset protection, and store inspections.
  • Experience with HR processes such as recruitment, performance reviews, corrective action, and employee development planning.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of post-secondary education in business or a related field considered an asset.
  • Ideally within the Co-op Retailing System.
